TOWER : Devlog 01 - 0.0.0


Hello, welcome to my first dev log in a very long while. My name is Kofy, I'm a Brazilian/French software engineer and I have been working as a game developer in different compagnies since 2020.

Because working on  AAA games can actually be pretty boring and stressful at the same time, I have decided to start making my own little games again. I don't really plan on doing anything big, those coding adventures are mostly a way for me to keep my programming skills sharp and stay passionate about game development.

For this first prototype I present you : TOWER

The idea for this game came to me while I was watching my sister play Genshin Impact. She had this character, Yea Miko, whose abilitie allowed to place up to three towers that would throw projectiles towards the enemie while Miko could keep attacking.

I found this game mecanic pretty entertaining and thought that it could make for a fun twist within the tower defens genra. Here you are not a semi god with the abiltie to instantly build towers at any point on the map. You are the king comanding their army of (three) archers to protect the castle from waves of enemies.

As I was writing my first scripts, I thought it would be nice for the game to happend within two phases.


I. Preparation

During preparation, the player would have X amount of time to go around the world map in order to collect resource. They could then use those resources in order to build new buildings and barreers. I imagine the village to resemble a bit the one from Clash of Clans.


II. Fight

During the fight fase, the player would have to navigate its base in order to place its towers in strategic points and prevent the enemies from destroying its village. 

 This two fase reminds me of Kingdom Two Crowns , I really enjoy how the game does this with a day/night cycle.

The first build, which is already available, offers the abilitie to move your caracter around and place/pick towers. 

The towers automatically attack while an enemy is in range. 

Currently, the towers gain xp points while they are active (an enemy is in range). Their stats improve for each level they earn.

By killing enemies, you earn a currency that allows you to buy new towers. In order to do so you must place your character upon the castle and left click.

There is little to no polish for now. My next goals are

- Adding new archetypes of towers 

- Adding new archetypes of enemies

- Adding the possibility to build buildings/defenses

- Adding a world to explore with points of interest to get resources from


The two last goals are a bit more consequent and might expend the scope of this project beyond what I initially intended.
